I love photography and when I started a few years ago, it was a daunting feel and the idea of good photos was so far away. Bit by bit the hurdles were jumped over, stumblingly at first, exposure, EV, ISO, all mashed up into a confusing mix and fiddling with the camera felt so clumsy.
One thing I will be always grateful for is finding the right instructor ..... a person who repeatedly reminded us that developing an eye and lots of practice was MORE essential than all the expensive equipment combined. In the beginning, with our very minimal skills and constantly hearing *it's not the camera but the photographer* didn't make sense because we all thought that if you had THE lens or THE camera, it would be easy-peasy !
Slowly the technical bits started to make sense, the whys created a certain outcome, selecting the f stops and exposures actually got me the results I wanted. The visual journey with Francis and some friends in the 5oMM Group became a regular highlight in a busy schedule. It was fun going out with a bunch of laid back people of all sorts who could photo-speak, who willingly shared their perspectives and from whom I learned over the past 2 years. Yes, of course I still want THE lens and THE camera, but now truly believe that my abilities will transcend any future camera I might own.
Yesterday we went on the Orchard Road street shoot, it was TOUGH !! Oh there were tall challenges alright - what to shoot, what angle, if it told a story, checking the light conditions, shooting fast on our feet, to be invisible ...... hoping to not get shouted at by some offended person.
Here they are, the ones I like :
